November 1928.

Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 20th March 1928, No.52827/28, and previous correspondence relative to the provision of a Recreation Ground at Caroline Hill, Hong Kong, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that during his recent visit to England H.E. The Governor of Hong Kong had an interview with the Civil Lord of the Admiralty as the result of which My Lords are hopeful that the Colonial Government will arrange to hand over the site to Them without charge, pro- vided the cost of converting it for the purposes of a United Services Recreation Ground is borne by Imperial Funds.

2.

My Lords appreciate the manner in which the Colonial Government have responded to their appeal for this much needed ground and They have notified the Army Council and the Air Ministry of the position reached. In order that the site may be made available as soon as practicable Their Lordships would be glad if the Secretary of State would be so good as to urge the Colonial

Government to confirm the foregoing arrangement at an early date and to take such steps as are necessary to effect the formal transfer.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office

S.W.1.
